October

I am sitting here at my desk wondering how the years keep flying by so fast.  I cannot believe that it is almost October!  I have a few exciting items to share with you.  Our reading groups and series are going well and we are seeing results with our students.  This is great and it is always a good thing to see students proud of their accomplishments.  I credit this to our “Walk to Read” throughout our elementary.  Using results from MAPs testing, Star testing and Reading Mastery we are able to place our students according to their own level, making school more individualized for each student.  We are currently looking at math scores across grade levels and are planning on implementing something similar in the upper classrooms as well.  Data is a great tool when used effectively to maximize student success!

Our MBI program is running smooth throughout our elementary.  We’ve had quite a few good behaviors as of late and Trojan Tickets are recognized at our Trojan Rallies and at our home sporting events.  Something new this year at our rallies is our “Hot Read” presentation.  I have assigned each teacher throughout our elementary a date to give a presentation of a book that they love and would recommend to the student body.  We had our first one this month and Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Farrand did an outstanding job with their presentations.  I cannot wait until the next “Hot Read” and am excited to see which books will be next.

Looking ahead throughout October, our regular sports seasons wind down, so if you have not gotten a chance to see any of our fall sports in action, you are encouraged to check them out. On October 19th, we have another early out at 1:00 for our PLCs followed by MEA days on the 20th and 21st.  The following week is Red Ribbon Week and Halloween this year is the next Monday.  Also that Friday is the end of our first quarter of school.

Have a great October and an even better hunting season.
