February 2018

February 1st marked the 100th day of school, and it is definitely relevant in our elementary wing.  Students have been creating projects that go along with the celebration.  One student even made a portrait that included a Mohawk, and when asked if that is really what he was going to look like when he is 100 years old, his response was “I hope so.”  This made me chuckle as I went about my day.

It is interesting to see the number of schools that are dealing with the flu this year.  It seems like every morning when I arise and turn on the news, there are more people that have been hospitalized.  In the elementary, we have had our Public Health School Nurse Pam Hanna teach the students about the importance of washing hands as well as demonstrating the task.  We truly appreciate her and others that teach this important skill to help stop the spread.

That being said, if your child shows any symptoms of the flu, please keep him/her home until they can fully function and the symptoms subside.  As a general guideline give it 24 hours after the fever has broken before they come back to school.

As a school, we have taken some extra precautions to help stop the spread as well.  Teachers and staff have been wiping down desks and work areas trying to keep them clean and germ free.  We have been reminding students of the importance of washing their hands and covering their coughs.  Ms. Stevens has also been teaching some guidance classes on “dealing with boogers”

February has a few events to be aware of as well.  The 14th is a busy day, the County Spelling Bee will be held at 6:00 pm in Boulder, it is Valentine’s Day, and this is also the same day as our monthly 1:00 pm release.  On the 19th we do not have school, so enjoy the three-day weekend.

Have a wonderful winter and stay healthy!
